The Electric Bicycle

A.R.S. 28-819 — the rights and duties of a bicycle, and class 3 off the paths

In Arizona, an operator of an electric bicycle has all the rights and privileges, and is subject to all the duties, of a person riding a bicycle. An electric bicycle is not subject to the rules on certificates of title, registration, vehicle license tax, driver licenses or vehicle insurance.

Which classes go on the paths. Class 1 and class 2 electric bicycles may be used on bicycle and multiuse paths, unless the authority over the path prohibits them. A class 3 electric bicycle may not be ridden on a bicycle or multiuse path unless it is within or next to a roadway, or the authority over the path allows it.

The label. Manufacturers and distributors affix a label showing the classification number, top assisted speed and motor wattage.
