The Light That Is Changing

A.R.S. 28-645 — a red light violation and traffic survival school, and turns on red after stopping

The yellow is a warning. Traffic facing a steady yellow signal is warned that the related green movement is being terminated, or that a red indication will be exhibited immediately after, when traffic shall not enter the intersection.

Red, then a turn. Traffic facing a steady red alone stops before entering the intersection and remains standing until an indication to proceed is shown. A driver stopped as close as practicable to the near crosswalk may turn right, and a driver on a one way street meeting a one way street moving left may turn left into it, in each case yielding to pedestrians and other traffic, unless a sign prohibiting the turn is erected.

School after a red light violation. On a judgment for running a steady red, the department orders the person to complete traffic survival school within sixty days, and suspends the driving privilege of a person who does not until they do. The citation tells the person that, if eligible, they may attend defensive driving school instead.
