Window Tint
Conn. Gen. Stat. § 14-99g — front side and rear windows let through not less than 35 per cent of the light
No person may operate a vehicle with anything placed or applied on it that blocks or reduces the operator's clear and full view of the road through the windshield or the side or rear windows, or apply material that changes the color or reduces the light passing through them, except as the section allows.
Who handles this in Connecticut: legal aid programs and the state offices, listed in the Connecticut directory.
- Front side windows and wing vents may have material that is not mirror like, with total light transmission of not less than 35 per cent plus or minus three per cent.
- The side windows behind the driver and the rearmost window may too, on the same 35 per cent measure.
- Stickers may go in a seven inch square in the windshield corner farthest from the driver, or a five inch square in the corner nearest.
- Material on the topmost part of the windshield is allowed if its bottom edge sits at least 29 inches above the driver's seat as the section measures it, and is not red or amber.
Each violation is an infraction. A driver cited for something blocking the view removes it and reports to the police department that issued the ticket within 60 days to show the vehicle complies; a driver who does not, and is cited again, has the vehicle impounded after notice and a chance for a hearing.
