Voting, Step By Step
Fla. Stat. 97.055 — the books close on the 29th day before each election
The 29th day. The registration books are closed on the 29th day before each election and remain closed until after it. New applications are still accepted, but only for later elections. In counting, the day of the election is excluded, and if the 29th day falls on a Sunday or legal holiday, the books close on the next day that is not.
Picture identification. Each elector entering the polling place presents a current and valid picture identification, such as a Florida driver license or identification card, a United States passport or passport card, a military, veteran health or concealed weapon license card, or another government issued identification card other than one from an educational institution.
Signature, and the address. If the picture identification has no signature, an additional identification with the elector's signature is required. The address on the identification may not be used as the basis to challenge the elector's legal residence.
Without it. An elector who does not furnish the required identification is allowed to vote a provisional ballot, and the canvassing board determines its validity.
Absentee and early voting, and what a provisional ballot needs in order to be counted, are set out in other sections that are not on this page. Whether a particular person is registered is a question for the local election office.
