Deadlines After a Conviction
Haw. R. App. P. 4 — 30 days after entry of the judgment to appeal a conviction
30 days. In a criminal case, the notice of appeal is filed within 30 days after entry of the judgment or order appealed from. A judgment or order is entered when it is filed with the clerk of the court. A mailed notice of appeal is timely if the mailing is postmarked within the time and received by the clerk no later than 5 days after the postmarked date.

After a motion. If a timely motion in arrest of judgment, or for a new trial, has been made under the Hawaiʻi Rules of Penal Procedure, an appeal from a judgment of conviction may be taken within 30 days after the entry of any order denying the motion.
Good cause. Upon a showing of good cause, the circuit, district, or family court may, no later than 30 days after the time has expired, on motion and notice, extend the time for filing a notice of appeal for a period not to exceed 30 days from the expiration of the time otherwise prescribed.
Post-conviction relief, assigned counsel on appeal, a stay pending appeal, and federal habeas corpus run on rules and deadlines of their own and are not on this page. Whether a deadline has passed in a particular case is a question for a licensed Hawaii attorney.
