Drinking Under 21
HRS 281-101.5 — a license suspended for at least one hundred and eighty days, seventy five hours of service, and an alcohol class
A minor may not buy or consume liquor, or have it in their possession or custody in any public place, public gathering or amusement, public beach or park, or motor vehicle on a public highway. Nor may a minor use a false or borrowed identification to buy liquor or to get a job selling or serving it.

- Under eighteen, it goes to family court. From eighteen to twenty one, it is a petty misdemeanor.
- The license, provisional license or instruction permit is suspended for not less than one hundred and eighty days, with exceptions the court may allow for school, school activities and work. Without a license, eligibility is suspended until seventeen or for one hundred and eighty days.
- Everyone found in violation does seventy five hours of community service and an eight to twelve hour alcohol education and counseling program, paid for by the offender or a parent.
It does not cover a minor delivering liquor for an employer, taking part in a religious ceremony, or, at eighteen to twenty, making a controlled purchase for law enforcement or a health department study. An adult who provides or buys liquor for someone under twenty one commits a separate offense.
