The Dog The Pound Picked Up
Idaho Code § 25-2804 — a collar and tag, five days before an unclaimed dog may be put down, and an infraction for running at large
Where a county has adopted the dog license measure, no dog may go at large without a collar bearing the county or city license tag, and a violation is an infraction.
Five days. The sheriff seizes and impounds a dog at large without its tag. No impounded dog may be killed before five days, excluding weekends and holidays, have passed and a reasonable effort to find the owner has failed.
After a complaint to the sheriff and notice served on the owner, willfully or negligently letting a dog run at large without a responsible attendant in a town or near farms and homes, or failing to keep it confined, is an infraction.
Cities set their own animal control rules and fees. A particular impound is a question for the shelter or the sheriff.
