Voting Step By Step
Idaho Code § 34-408A and Idaho Code § 34-1113 — register on election day at the polls, and identification or an affidavit
The county clerk's office stops registering voters at 5:00 p.m. on the eleventh day before an election, and a complete application received in that window is held and takes effect the day after.
Register on election day. An eligible person may register on election day by going in person to the polling place for their precinct, completing an application, showing proof of identity and residence, and taking an oath. Registration is also open at early voting and absentee polling places.
- An Idaho driver's license or identification card.
- A passport or a federal photo identification card.
- A tribal identification card with a photograph.
- An Idaho license to carry concealed weapons.
Every voter presents one of those before voting. A voter without one may sign an affidavit with their name, address and date of birth or license number, which the judges check against the records before issuing a ballot.
Knowingly giving false information on that affidavit is a felony. Absentee voting runs under its own chapter. A particular question is for the county clerk.
