School Zones and Work Zones
IC 9-21-5-6 — a school zone limit of at least 20, only near the school, only with children present
- A city, town or county may set a speed limit on a street or highway where a school is located, and a city or town may on a state highway.
- Such a limit is valid only if it is not less than 20 miles per hour, is imposed only in the immediate vicinity of the school, applies while children are present, and is properly signed where it begins and ends.
- Exceeding a school zone limit is a Class B infraction; exceeding another local limit is a Class C infraction.
Who handles this in Indiana: legal aid programs and the state offices, listed in the Indiana directory.
A worksite speed limit is at least ten miles per hour below the established maximum. It is enforced while workers are present, or without them where the authority finds safety requires it.
