Interference with Official Acts

Iowa Code § 719.1 — knowingly resisting or obstructing an officer, with a fine of at least $250

Knowingly resisting or obstructing a known peace officer, jailer, emergency medical provider or firefighter in a lawful duty, or the service of court process, is interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor with a fine of not less than $250.

  • If it results in bodily injury, it is a serious misdemeanor.
  • If it results in serious injury, or the person inflicts bodily injury, it is an aggravated misdemeanor.
  • If the person inflicts or tries to inflict serious injury, displays a dangerous weapon, or is armed with a firearm, it is a class D felony.
