Spousal Support

Iowa Code § 598.21A — support for a limited or indefinite time, after the listed factors

  • The court may order support to either party for a limited or indefinite time.
  • It considers the length of the marriage, each party's age and health, the property division, and each party's education.
  • It weighs the earning capacity of the party asking, including time out of the job market and the cost of training, and whether that party can become self supporting at a comparable standard of living.
