Identity Theft

La. R.S. 14:67.16 — using another's identifying information to get something of value, graded by value and the victim's age

Identity theft is intentionally using, possessing or transferring another person's identifying information, with fraudulent intent and without consent, to obtain credit, money, goods, services or anything of value. Identifying information includes a social security, driver's license, bank or card number, a date of birth, and a mother's maiden name.

Minimum terms apply when the victim is 60 or older, has a disability, or is under seventeen. A person who learns or suspects his information was misused may start an investigation with the local law enforcement agency where he lives, which makes a written report.
