Registering to Vote
La. R.S. 18:135 — registration closes 30 days before an election, 20 for online registration
A citizen who is at least 18, or will be by the next election, and a bona fide resident of the parish and precinct, may register. A person aged seventeen may register before the first election at 18, and one who is 16 years of age may register in person at the registrar's office or as the law otherwise allows, but no one votes before 18.

- A mailed application counts as of its postmark.
- A first time voter who registered by mail votes in person, at early voting or at the precinct, with exceptions such as military and overseas voters.
- A full time student may register either at school or at home, but not both.
- A person displaced by a declared emergency stays a resident of the parish where registered.
