A Gun Locked in the Car at Work
26 M.R.S. § 600 — a permit holder may keep a firearm out of sight in a locked vehicle
An employer may not forbid an employee who holds a valid concealed handgun permit from keeping a firearm in the employee's vehicle, as long as the vehicle is locked and the firearm is not visible. It does not allow carrying where the law otherwise forbids it.
Who handles this in Maine: legal aid programs and the state offices, listed in the Maine directory.
The employer is not liable for harm from someone else's use of a firearm kept that way, including one stolen from the vehicle, unless the employer intentionally brought it about.
