Open Meetings
1 M.R.S. § 403 — public proceedings open to all, and recording them allowed
- Every public proceeding is open, and anyone may attend.
- Anyone may take notes, record, film or broadcast it live, as long as it does not interfere with the meeting.
- A meeting of a body of 3 or more gets public notice in ample time to allow attendance.
- A record shows the date, time and place, who was present, and every motion and vote.
Who handles this in Maine: legal aid programs and the state offices, listed in the Maine directory.
Executive sessions. A closed executive session needs a public, recorded vote of 3/5 of the members present and voting, on a motion naming its business and the law that allows it. No ordinance, contract, appointment or other official action may be finally approved in one.
