Registering to Vote
21-A M.R.S. § 122 — registration in person on election day
- A voter is a United States citizen, at least 18 years of age, with a voting residence in the municipality, and registered there.
- A person who will be 18 by the next general election may vote in that party's primary.
Who handles this in Maine: legal aid programs and the state offices, listed in the Maine directory.
The registrar accepts registrations from applicants who appear in person on election day. A person registering in person shows proof of identity and residency; without it, the person's ballot is cast as a challenged ballot.
