Jury Duty And Your Job
G.L. c. 234A, § 61 — no firing, threats or forced assignments over jury service
In Massachusetts, an employer may not take away a juror employee's job or its benefits, or harass, threaten or coerce an employee because they received a juror summons, responded to it, or served on a grand or trial jury, and may not impose compulsory work assignments during jury service.
A crime, and a civil claim. An employer who violates the section commits a crime punishable by a fine of up to five thousand dollars, and is liable to the employee, who may sue in superior court. The court may award treble damages and reasonable attorney's fees for willful conduct.
