Turning Eighteen
G.L. c. 231, § 85P — full legal capacity at eighteen, unless incapacitated for a reason other than age
Full legal capacity. Except as a law specifically provides otherwise, a person domiciled in Massachusetts who has reached eighteen is of full legal capacity for all purposes, unless legally incapacitated for a reason other than insufficient age.
Ages set for specific purposes elsewhere, such as buying alcohol or tobacco and some licenses and permits, are not on this page. How a particular age rule applies to a particular person is a question for a licensed Massachusetts attorney.
