The Golf Cart On The Street
Minn. Stat. 169.045 — by local ordinance and by permit only
By permit. A county, city or town may by ordinance authorize motorized golf carts, and some other small vehicles, on designated roadways. Authorization is by permit only.
The ordinance. It designates the roadways, prescribes the permit application, requires evidence of insurance, and may set conditions. A permit lasts not more than three years and may be renewed, and may be revoked if the permittee cannot operate safely. It may require a physician's certificate of the applicant's ability to operate safely.
Low-speed vehicles registered as motor vehicles, all-terrain and utility vehicles, private roads, and the local ordinance itself are outside this page. Whether a particular street is designated, and what the local rules require, are questions for the local government or a licensed Minnesota attorney.
