The Insurance Requirement
Neb. Rev. Stat. § 60-3,167 — a Class II misdemeanor, a suspension until proof is filed, and ten days to show coverage
A Class II misdemeanor. An owner who drives, or allows a car to be driven, on a Nebraska highway without a current liability policy, evidence of insurance or proof of financial responsibility is guilty of a Class II misdemeanor.
On conviction, the owner's license, registration and plates are suspended until the owner complies with the proof requirements, and proof is kept on file for a continuous three years after the violation.
Ten days to show it. An owner who cannot produce proof when an officer asks has ten days after the request to show the prosecutor that a policy was in force at the time, and the citation is then dismissed without cost.
Proof may be shown on a phone. A particular case is a question for a licensed Nebraska attorney.
