What Parents Answer For

NRS 41.470 — a minor's willful misconduct, imputed to the parents, up to $10,000 an act

Willful misconduct, and $10,000. In Nevada, a minor's willful misconduct that injures or kills someone, or damages someone else's private property or public property, is imputed to the parents or guardian having custody and control of the minor for civil damages. They are jointly and severally liable with the minor, but not for more than $10,000 for any one act.

The liability is in addition to any other the law imposes, so it does not replace a claim against the parents on some other ground.

The section reaches willful misconduct, not carelessness, and it has an exception for another section not reproduced here. Whether an act was willful, and what other liability applies, are questions for a court and a licensed Nevada attorney.
