The Motorcycle Helmet
N.J.S.A. 39:3-76.7 — an approved, reflectorized helmet with a strap
In New Jersey, a person may not operate or ride on a motorcycle unless wearing a securely fitted protective helmet of the proper size and an approved type. The helmet must have a neck or chin strap and be reflectorized on both sides.
No points. The chief administrator may not assess motor vehicle points for a motorcycle operator's or rider's failure to wear a protective helmet.

Licensing, endorsement and equipment rules for motorcycles, and the separate rules for mopeds and electric bicycles, are not on this page. Whether a particular helmet meets the standard, or an exception applies to a particular rider, is a question for a licensed New Jersey attorney.
