What A Creditor Cannot Take
N.J.S.A. 2A:17-56 — a wage execution is capped at 10%
Ten percent of wages. In New Jersey, an execution against a judgment debtor's wages, salary or other earnings may not exceed 10%, unless the debtor's income is more than 250 % of the poverty level for their family size, when the court may order a larger percentage.
Personal property worth up to $1,000.00, not counting clothing, and all wearing apparel are kept from seizure on execution, except for a debt incurred to buy that same property, or for taxes.
