Discrimination At Work
G.S. 143-422.2 — employers of 15 or more, and the reasons the policy names
In North Carolina, it is the stated public policy to protect the right of all persons to seek, obtain and hold employment without discrimination on account of race, religion, color, national origin, age, sex or handicap by employers that regularly employ 15 or more employees.
Jury duty is protected. No employer may discharge or demote an employee because the employee was called for jury duty or is serving on a grand or trial jury. An employer that does is liable for reasonable damages, and a discharged or demoted employee is entitled to reinstatement. The employee carries the burden of proof, and the time to sue is one year.
