Who May Vote, and the ID to Bring

N.D.C.C. § 16.1-01-04.1 — an ID showing name, North Dakota street address and birth date before a ballot

An elector is a United States citizen, eighteen or older, who has lived in the precinct at least thirty days before the election. No one may vote in another's place, even under a power of attorney or guardianship.

  • A ballot is given only after a valid ID showing legal name, current North Dakota residential street address, and date of birth.
  • Valid IDs are a North Dakota driver's license or nondriver ID card, or a tribal government ID for a tribal member living in the state.
  • Missing or outdated details can be supplied by a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck or government document.
