Seat Belts

R.I. Gen. Laws § 31-22-22 — every driver and every passenger belted, $40 on the schedule, and kept off the driving record

Every driver wears a safety belt while the vehicle is on the road, and the driver is responsible for every passenger, of any age, wearing one.

A driver under eighteen years old wears one too.

Forty dollars, off the record. No seat belt is $40 for a driver and $40 for a passenger, and the conviction is not recorded on the driving record.

Some vehicles and people are exempt under the section. A particular ticket is a question for a licensed Rhode Island attorney.
