The Motorcycle Helmet
S.C. Code 56-5-3660 — required under the age of twenty-one
Under twenty-one. It is unlawful for a person under the age of twenty-one to operate or ride on a two wheeled motorized vehicle without wearing a protective helmet of a type the Department of Public Safety approves.
The helmet has a neck or chin strap and is reflectorized on both sides. The department adopts the specifications and keeps a list of approved helmets.
Eye protection, lights and the rules of the road for motorcycles have sections of their own. Whether a particular vehicle or rider is covered is a question for a licensed South Carolina attorney.
