Staying In Your Lane
SDCL § 32-26-6 — within a single lane as nearly as practicable, and no lane change until it can be made safely
On a roadway divided into lanes, a vehicle is driven as nearly as practicable entirely within a single lane, and is not moved from it until the driver has first made sure it can be done safely. A violation is a Class 2 misdemeanor.
Following distance. A driver may not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, given the speed, the traffic and the road. That is a Class 2 misdemeanor too.
A lane violation is often the reason given for a stop. A particular stop is a question for a licensed South Dakota attorney.
