Getting Public Records
Utah Code 63G-2-204 — an answer within 10 business days, or five when expedited
A person has the right to inspect a public record free of charge, and to take a copy of it during normal working hours, under the Government Records Access and Management Act.
Who handles this in Utah: legal aid programs and the state offices, listed in the Utah directory.
- A request is written and gives the requester's name, mailing address, daytime telephone number, and an email address if willing to receive email, and describes the record with reasonable specificity.
- The entity answers as soon as reasonably possible and no later than 10 business days after the written request, or five business days where the requester shows an expedited response benefits the public.
- Extraordinary circumstances the section lists allow added time.
