A Small Estate
14 V.S.A. § 1901 — personal property worth $45,000 or less opens with a short list of filings
When an estate is worth not more than $45,000 and is entirely personal property, it can be opened by filing a petition, a list of interested persons, the fee, the death certificate, an inventory, an affidavit of funeral expenses and debts, a bond without surety, and any will.
An interested person who does not consent gets notice and may object within 14 days; with no objection, the court approves the fiduciary and any will without a hearing.
