Growing Cannabis at Home
18 V.S.A. § 4230e — two mature and four immature plants for each dwelling unit, screened from public view
- A person 21 years of age or older may cultivate not more than two mature and four immature cannabis plants.
- The limit applies to each dwelling unit, however many adults live there.
- Cannabis harvested from those plants and stored indoors on the same property, with reasonable precautions against unauthorized access, does not count toward the possession limit.
- Growing more than the limit is punished under the cannabis section.
Growing happens only on property the grower lawfully possesses or has written consent to use, in an area screened from public view and open only to the grower and adults 21 or older the grower allows. A violation brings a civil penalty of not more than $100 for a first offense, $200 for a second, and $500 for a third or later.
No one may consume cannabis in a public place unless the law specifically allows it.
