23 V.S.A. § 1130 — handing the keys to someone known to be impaired, up to six months and $1,000
- No one may employ a driver knowing the driver is not licensed.
- No owner or person in control of a vehicle may let someone drive it, knowing that person has no legal right to.
- No owner or person in control may intentionally give a direct and immediate chance to drive to someone known to be under the influence of alcohol, or of drugs to a degree that makes driving unsafe.
- That last rule does not apply when the owner acted under duress or coercion from the driver.
Letting an impaired person drive carries up to six months and $1,000. If someone other than the driver dies or is seriously injured, it carries up to two years and $5,000.
