Pulling Over for a Siren
23 V.S.A. § 1050 — pull right and stop for an approaching emergency vehicle, and move over for a stopped one
- For an approaching police vehicle with a siren or blue lights, or an ambulance, fire apparatus or rescue vehicle with a siren or red lights, other vehicles pull to the right and stop until it passes.
- Approaching a stopped police, emergency or towing and repair vehicle with its lights on, a driver proceeds with caution and, on a multilane highway where safe, changes to a lane farther away.
- A driver who must stay in the next lane slows to a reasonable, safe and prudent speed.
Passing a stopped sanitation, maintenance, utility or delivery vehicle with flashing lights calls for reduced speed and a recommended clearance of at least four feet.
