23 V.S.A. § 1259 — every adult belted, enforced only after a stop for something else
- The driver is in violation if anyone 18 or older in a seat with a belt is not wearing it while the vehicle moves on a public highway.
- It may be enforced only when an officer has stopped the driver for another suspected traffic violation.
- The penalty is $25 for a first violation, $50 for a second, and $100 after that.
- Rural mail carriers, frequent stop delivery drivers at 15 miles per hour or less, farm tractor drivers, and bus and taxi riders are excepted.
