The Value On Your Tax Bill

RCW 84.40.038 — a petition to the county board of equalization by July 1 or thirty days after the notice, whichever is later

The deadline. The owner may petition the county board of equalization for a change in assessed valuation, on the department's form, filed on or before July 1st of the assessment year, within thirty days after the assessment or value change notice was mailed or electronically sent, or within a limit of up to sixty days the county sets, whichever is later.

Email

Late, with good cause. The board may waive the filing deadline if the petition is filed within a reasonable time after it and the petitioner shows good cause for the late filing.

The form matters. A petition not on the prescribed forms, or not properly completed, may not be considered.

What happens after the first level of review, and the exemptions that change what is owed, are set out in other sections that are not on this page. Whether a particular assessment can be lowered is a question for a licensed Washington attorney or appraiser.
