Points And Suspension
Wis. Stat. 343.32 — demerit points by seriousness, and 3, 4 or 6 for speeding
Points are separate from the fine. A license is lost to points by accumulation over a period, rather than by any one ticket.
The scale. The secretary may suspend the operating privilege of a habitually reckless or negligent driver, or one who has repeatedly violated traffic laws, and may adopt by rule a scale weighing convictions by seriousness.
| Speeding | Points |
|---|---|
| Speeding10 or less miles per hour over | Points3 demerit points |
| SpeedingMore than 10 but less than 20 over | Points4 demerit points |
| Speeding20 or more over | Points6 demerit points |
No more for a repeat. Except as another section provides, the scale may not assign more points for a later speeding conviction than the table sets.
Insurance surcharges, commercial license rules, suspensions for a single serious offense such as impaired driving, and reinstatement fees are set elsewhere and are not on this page. Counting the points on a particular record is a question for the state's licensing agency or a licensed Wisconsin attorney.
