The Title That Never Came

Wis. Stat. 342.16 — a receipt at the sale, and the dealer's title application processed within 7 business days

A receipt. On transferring a vehicle, the dealer immediately gives the buyer a receipt, on the department's form, for all title, registration, security interest and sales tax money paid to the dealer.

Seven business days. Within 7 business days following the sale, the dealer processes the application for certificate of title, and within the next business day mails or delivers it with the required materials to the department.

The assignment. The dealer promptly executes the assignment and warranty of title, showing the buyer and any secured party.
