Marrying Under Eighteen
W.S. 20-1-102 — never under sixteen, and at sixteen or seventeen with a judge and a parent
Both people must be at least eighteen years of age to marry, with narrow exceptions. No one under sixteen years of age may marry, and such a marriage is void.
Who handles this in Wyoming: legal aid programs, lawyer referral and the state offices, listed in the Wyoming directory.
- A marriage involving someone sixteen or seventeen is voidable unless a Wyoming judge of a court of record approves it first and authorizes the license.
- A parent, guardian, or person caring for them also consents, in person or in writing.
- Neither is needed where both are at least sixteen years of age and each one under eighteen is emancipated or otherwise able to contract.
