A Protection Order for Stalking or Sexual Assault
W.S. 7-3-507 — for anyone stalked or sexually assaulted, with no fee for filing or service
A victim of stalking or sexual assault may petition for an order of protection whatever their relationship to the other person, with sworn affidavits of specific facts. No fee is charged for filing or for service, and the person does not have to have been charged or convicted.
Who handles this in Wyoming: legal aid programs, lawyer referral and the state offices, listed in the Wyoming directory.
The court sets a hearing within seventy two hours of filing, with each party served at least twenty four hours before it. On a clear and present danger, it may grant a temporary order before the hearing.
An order lasts up to three years and can be extended for good cause where a clear and present danger continues. Willfully violating it is a misdemeanor with up to six months, a fine of up to $750, or both.
