Changing Your Name
Idaho Code § 7-801 and Idaho Code § 7-803 — a petition in district court, notice published for four successive weeks, and thirty days' notice to the other parent
A petition to change a name is heard and decided by the district court.
Four successive weeks. Notice of the hearing, signed by the clerk, is published for four successive weeks in a newspaper the court picks in the county where the person lives, and proof of the publication is made before the petition can be considered. Anyone with a good reason against the change may file an objection.
A child's name. Where a parent petitions for a minor and the other living parent does not join in consenting, the other parent is served with notice of the hearing at least thirty days before it.
A particular petition is a question for the court's self help center or a licensed Idaho attorney.
