Hazing

Idaho Code § 18-917 — bodily danger or listed humiliations as a condition of membership, a misdemeanor

No student or member of a fraternity, sorority or other student group on or near a campus may intentionally haze, or conspire to haze, a member or pledge as a condition of membership or of an office in the group.

Email
  • Subjecting a person to bodily danger or physical harm, or a likelihood of it.
  • Nudity, forced drinking or eating, or carrying obscene or burdensome items.
  • Physical assaults, boxing matches or excessive calisthenics.
  • Abandonment, confinement in small or unsanitary spaces, or sleep deprivation.

Those are among the acts that are hazing. A student or member who personally violates the section commits a misdemeanor, which carries up to six months and a fine of up to $1,000 where no other punishment is set.

Customary athletic events and contests are outside the section. A particular charge is a question for a licensed Idaho attorney.
