Staying in a Lane
625 ILCS 5/11-709 — within a single lane, and out of it only once it is safe
On a roadway marked with 2 or more lanes, a vehicle is driven as nearly as practicable entirely within a single lane, and is not moved out of it until the driver has first made sure the move can be made safely.
Who handles this in Illinois: Illinois State Bar Association, Illinois Lawyer Finder; and legal aid programs and the state offices, listed in the Illinois directory.
On a road of 3 lanes with two way traffic, the center lane is used only to overtake when it is clear, to prepare for a left turn, or where signs give it to traffic going the driver's way.
