Iowa Code § 216.15 — a complaint to the civil rights commission within 300 days
An employer may not refuse to hire, fire, or otherwise discriminate because of age, race, creed, color, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, religion or disability, unless based on the nature of the occupation. A qualified person with a disability is not excluded on the ground of the occupation's nature.
- A claim is not maintained unless a complaint is filed with the agency within 300 days after the practice.
- After 60 days on file, the complainant may ask for a release to sue in district court.
- The suit must be started within 90 days after the release.
