Iowa Code § 714.7 — an aggravated misdemeanor, even without meaning to keep it

Taking possession or control of someone else's self propelled vehicle, railroad vehicle, aircraft or motor boat without the owner's consent, but without intending to permanently deprive the owner of it, is an aggravated misdemeanor. It may be proved as a lesser included offense on a theft charge.

Where no specific penalty is given, an aggravated misdemeanor carries up to two years and a fine of at least $855 and not more than $8,540.
