The Insurance Requirement
Iowa Code § 321.20B — coverage in effect and the proof card in the vehicle, paper or electronic
- No one may drive on Iowa highways unless financial liability coverage is in effect for the vehicle and the proof card is in the vehicle.
- The card may be paper or electronic.
- A vehicle driven in a free public or customer parking lot is presumed to have been driven on the highway to get there.
- After a citation, the vehicle may be driven for up to 48 hours only to remove it from the highways, unless the driving privilege is otherwise suspended.
