WHAT EACH CHARGE CARRIES

40 charges people actually meet, each with the section it comes from, what it requires the state to show, and the most it can carry. Iowa sorts offenses into classes: simple, serious and aggravated misdemeanors, and class D, C, B and A felonies. Where an offense names no specific penalty, Iowa Code § 903.1 sets the misdemeanor ranges and § 902.9 the felony terms and fines, so each level here names the class.
