WHAT EACH CHARGE CARRIES
44 charges people actually meet, each with the section it comes from, what it requires the state to show, and the most it can carry. Kansas sorts misdemeanors into classes A, B and C, and ranks felonies by severity level on two grids, one for drug crimes and one for everything else, where the term is a range in months set by the level and the person's criminal history. A traffic infraction carries a fine and no jail, and a few offenses set their own sentence.
