Guns on School Grounds
KRS 527.070 — a Class D felony, with an exception for a gun that stays in an adult's vehicle
Knowingly possessing or carrying a firearm or other deadly weapon, openly or concealed, in a public or private school building or bus, or on school grounds, fields or other school property, is unlawful possession of a weapon on school property. The section does not reach colleges and universities.
- An adult who is not a secondary school pupil may have a firearm in a vehicle the adult is driving, if it stays in the vehicle and is not brandished.
- Students in ROTC, a course, a club or a team are excepted as far as their duties require.
Unlawful possession of a weapon on school property is a Class D felony.
