Registering to Vote
KRS 116.045 — registration closes the fourth Tuesday before a primary or general election
- A voter is a United States citizen, a Kentucky resident, a resident of the precinct, meets the constitution's qualifications, and is registered.
- A person charged or indicted but not convicted may vote.
- A person convicted of an election law felony may not vote until civil rights are restored by executive pardon.
The county clerk closes registration from the fourth Tuesday before a primary or general election through the first Monday after it. A person who registers while the books are closed is not able to vote in that election.
Residence is where a voter lives and means to return to. A person without a fixed nighttime residence may name a fixed address, including a shelter, as their residence.
