A Temporary Carry Permit
La. R.S. 40:1379.3.2 — a person protected by an order barring the abuser from guns may get a 45 day permit before training
A person protected by a permanent injunction or protective order against abuse by a family member, household member or dating partner, where the order bars the abuser from possessing a firearm, may apply for a temporary concealed handgun permit.
- The applicant applies under oath, in person or electronically, and meets the ordinary permit qualifications except the training requirement.
- The applicant pays the twenty-five dollar permit fee, which is applied later to a regular permit once training is done.
- The permit expires forty-five days from issuance, or sooner if a regular permit issues, and is valid only in Louisiana.
- The holder carries a copy of the injunction or protective order whenever carrying the handgun, or the permit is invalid.
